What is Aequitas Mobility Services?

Aequitas Mobility Services (AMS) is a non-profit organization that provides on-demand public transportation in the greater Battle Creek area—including the City of Battle Creek, Springfield, Bedford, Emmett and Pennfield Townships.

What does “on-demand transportation” mean?

On-demand transportation, also known as demand-responsive transportation, is a form of transport where vehicles change their routes based on demand versus using a fixed route or schedule.

How much does it cost to use AMS?

1 ride is $7.  A “ride” = 1 destination stop/one-way trip. Rates include costs for vehicle operation, maintenance, and fuel.

Discounted rates are available with package and bulk purchase.

How long does it take to get places using AMS?

When you use AMS, your trip will take a little longer than it would if you were driving car, but less time than it would if you were using the bus.   We recommend that you book your ride in advance and consider scheduling a drop off time that is about 15 minutes earlier than when you need to arrive.

How long does it take to get places using AMS?

While AMS is in its first phase of operations, riders must first call AMS at (269) 441-5387.  Riders will complete a screening to determine transportation needs.  Depending on the time and location of requested services, riders may be put on a wait list. AMS will contact riders on the wait list as soon as seats become available to begin scheduling rides.

All rides must be scheduled in advance. Rides are subject to availability so we recommend scheduling your ride(s) as far in advance as possible.

How do I schedule a ride?

How long will I be on the wait list?
Time on the wait list could be as short as 24 hours, depending on the transportation needs of the rider. If a rider needs transportation that falls outside of the current service area or service hours, the wait time will be longer. AMS will contact riders on the wait list as soon as service becomes available to begin scheduling rides.
What if I need to cancel my ride?

If your schedule changes and you need to cancel your ride, call the AMS office at (269) 441-5387 as soon as possible. Scheduling hours are Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are cancelling a ride outside of those hours, leave a detailed message including your first and last name, the date and time the ride you are cancelling was scheduled for. Please note that “no-shows,” frequent cancellations, and/or cancellations with short notice may result in temporary suspension of services.

What if I need to change my pickup time?

If you need to change your pickup time, you will need to call the AMS office at (269) 441-5387 during scheduling hours (Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) to change your pickup time. If you are calling to change your pickup time outside of those hours, leave a detailed message including your first and last name, the date and time the ride you need to change, and the time you would like to change the ride to. Please note that because rides are subject to availability, changes to scheduled pickup times cannot be guaranteed. AMS recommends calling at least one business day in advance to make changes to scheduled rides. “No-shows,” frequent schedule changes, and/or changes with short notice may result in temporary suspension of services.
